UNITED ENGINEERING SOLUTIONS is a dynamic company operating in the heavy lift shipping segment. We currently undertake the cargo engineering work exclusively for a fleet of 16 heavy lift vessels, with up to 900 ton lifting capacity and for 3 deck carriers. To strengthen our team, we are looking for a

Supercargo (f/m/d)

to join our current engineering team.

 

Main responsibilities in the office
To provide cargo related technical expertise, including:

  • Prepare stowage plans, lifting arrangements, lashing plans, method statements, etc.
  • Provide guidance on cargo hold preparation and seamanship’s related topics
  • Discuss stowage or cargo related topics with master and owners
  • Provide technical information about vessels and advice on cargo handling restrictions and various related issues
  • Participate in vessels’ scheduling meetings in close cooperation with the chartering department

 

Main responsibilites out of office

To provide cargo related technical expertise, including:

  • Physical supervision of stowage and securing of cargo
  • Coordination of gang ordering and ships’ working schedules
  • Supervise stevedoring work and special-order loading/unloading operations
  • Pre-inspect special cargo site
  • Act as a company representative
  • Interface between the office, stevedores, and ships

 

Core skills

  • Excellent communication skills, oral, written and interpersonal
  • Fluent in English, written and spoken
  • Knowledge of German is considered an asset
  • Ability to effectively interact with ships, Masters and crew
  • Highly organized and strong attention to detail
  • Proven problem solving skills and ability to work under pressure
  • Ability to make decisions and work independently
  • Computer proficient / Knowledge of AutoCAD is considered an asset
  • Knowledge of ship construction, structural strength, trim, stability
  • Knowledge experience with stowage, lashing, other requirements for the carriage of breakbulk such as steel, projects and heavy lifts
  • Integrity

 

Other requirements

  • Minimum two years of seagoing experience as chief mate or second mate is considered an asset
  • Ability to travel and work outside regular business hours, including weekends, as required

 

Location

  • Preferably in our Head office in Hamburg, Germany, but other cities/countries can be considered
